We can all think of times when we've seen other people wearing formal dresses that don't suit their figure. Don't let this happen to you on your big night: use this guide to choose a dress style that will flatter you and bring out the prom queen in you!
What is your figure type?
Tall and slim
You are 170cm or taller. You are generally slender and gently curved. Your shoulders and hips are approximately the same width. You have an average sized bust.
The goal is to emphasize your long legs and accent your curves.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Empire, Sheath, Princess Gown, A-Line
If you desire the appearance of a fuller chest, try an empire style dress. Transform your body into a feminine hourglass by adding detail at the waistline (a belt, ribbons, ruching, or darts). If you need to add fullness to your slender figure, try a princess skirt or an A-line dress.
A dress with patterns or elaborate beading can help break your long line and add more definition to your shape. A sheath dress looks fabulous and flows nicely on your long silhouette.
Try a body hugging dress that emphasises your subtle curves. Look for one with a slit to reveal your long legs. An open neckline, a cutout back or a plunging V-neck also works for you.
Pear shape
You are either short or tall and you are bottom heavy. Your hips, bottom and thighs are larger than your upper body.
Make the most of your best assets which are your arms, neck and bust.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Empire, Princess Gown, A-Line
Choose dresses that emphasise the bodice and loosely flow over the body. Strapless bodices are the best choice for your figure. Choose either empire, A-line, or ball gown and if possible choose a strapless bustier or a halter with a round neckline.

FORMAL DRESSES

Hour glass
You are either short or tall and have a medium to large bust. You are curvy especially around the hips and bottom and you have a smallish waist. This is is smaller than your shoulders/bust and hips. Celebrity examples include 'Beyonce' and 'Salma Hayek'.
If you have this figure type, your goal is to show off your curves.

The following dress styles will look best on you: Sheath, Princess Gown, A-Line
Try a fitted sheath dress either plain or embellished and this will show off your curves. If you have generous hips look for an A-line ball gown which will flatter your lower half.

A strapless bodice that is beaded or embroidered at the bust is especially good as it draws attention upward. Also great are corset bodices that will give you a cinched waist.

Apple shape
You are either short or tall. You have a heavier mid-section than the rest of your body. You are thick-waisted or you have an rounded or prominent tummy.
Your goal is to slim and lengthen your body.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Empire, A-Line
Empire dresses look great on your type of figure. The high waist detracts from your tummy and lengthens your overall figure. If you choose an A-line gown, it is best that you choose a bodice with boning for a slimming effect.
Large bust

You are either short or tall and have a C-cup or bigger.
You should aim to subtly emphasize your bust line whilst ensuring support.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Princess Gown, A-Line, Halter
It's best to go for something with straps as this will hold bust in place and if you choose an A-line or princess style gown it's advisable to select a corset type bodice for added support.
Halter gowns with good coverage will flatter your bust-line without showing too much cleavage and with halter necks you can adjust it to get the support you might need. Another way to detract from bust area is to wear a dress that has details like beading or embroidery on the lower skirt or hemline.
Small bust
You are either short or tall and have an A-cup or smaller.
You should aim to emphasize your subtle curves.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Empire, Princess Gown, A-Line
An Empire style is the best by far for you and even better if the bodice/bust area is ruched, beaded, embroidered or has ruffles. This will give the illusion of you having a fuller bust. A strapless bodice in a ball gown is fine, but it will need to be very well fitted to your figure.
Plus-size/full figured
You are either short or tall and have a large bust. You have a large frame with 'Rubenesque', voluptuous curves.
The goal is to support your bust, whilst showing your curves to best advantage.
The following dress styles will look best on you: Empire, Princess Gown, A-Line
If you've got a large bust it might be best to avoid spaghetti strap dresses as they don't offer much support. V-neck, sweetheart and round bustlines are excellent for you. Go for thick straps and halter tops.
Look for an A-line gown that gives shape to the waist and then flows over the lower body. Corset tops/waists will pull you in and shape your body. Also consider buying a two piece ball outfit, so that the top can give some coverage over the tummy and possibly bottom.

Conclusion

Every woman is different, but with the right choice of formal dress, everyone can look their best.

Why is Easter Celebrated?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God was raised up from the dead. Christ's resurrection from the dead is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

Did You Know?
Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian holiday celebrated in the world. It falls on a different date every year because it is based on the lunar calendar.

Christians celebrate Easter in commemoration of the day of Jesus' resurrection from the dead. Jesus' resurrection has freed mankind from the grasp of sin and death. According to the Christian faith, Jesus died to save the world. His sinless blood that He shed on the cross, was poured out to justify man and restore man's fallen position.

Here is a detailed account of the background and significance of Easter.

Fall of Man

According to the Christian faith, God created Adam (Man) and Eve (Woman). Genesis 1: 27, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." When God created man and woman He made them holy, sinless, and perfect in His own likeness. God gave them authority over every living creature (like fish, birds, animals) and placed them in the Garden of Eden.

God had given them free will, so Adam and Eve had the freedom to choose. However, God placed one restriction on them. Gen 2:16-17, "...of every tree of the garden, you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die." The devil (Satan―one of God's creation who sinned against God) in the form of a serpent, tricked Eve into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree. Satan whispered to Eve, Gen 3:4-5 "You shall not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God."

Eve succumbed to the temptation of the devil, and after she ate it, she gave the fruit to Adam as well. With this they had sinned and disobeyed God's command of not eating the fruit. Adam and Eve had a will of their own and they willfully sinned against God. They had forsaken God and it was not God who had forsaken them.

When they ate it, they looked at each other and felt shame and guilt. They weren't dead, so they thought God had lied. They didn't know God had meant spiritual death and not physical death. Physical death is when the spirit separates from the body, however, spiritual death means separation of man from God. As a result, they were banished from the garden of Eden and most importantly God's presence. They had no access to God anymore. Sin had separated them from their creator. All men and women born thereof, have inherited this sinful nature from Adam and Eve. So, every person born on earth is born in the sinful state itself.

Jesus Christ: Savior of Mankind

The Christian faith believes in the trinity (tri-unity) of God, that is Christians believe in one God with three persons. To understand this, take the example of an atom that consists of a proton, electron, and neutron, however, is still one single unit. Similarly, Christians believe in One God, with three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, who though three persons are one unit. Separate identities, but still one God.

God created man to have fellowship with Him, however, sin became the barrier between God and man. It did not mean God ceased to love man, however God being holy cannot tolerate sin. God wanted to restore mankind from his fallen place, and destroy the barrier of sin that had caused the separation. To restore the relationship, God decided to send His Son, Jesus Christ to die as a penalty for man's committed sin. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Only Jesus could reconcile man to God. Jesus' blood alone had the power to save mankind, because the sacrifice of sinless blood had to be shed. His blood would cleanse man from sin. Since all of mankind was born in sin, no man could save man. Jesus, Son of God had to die.

Jesus Christ: Birth and Crucifixion

Jesus Christ came into the world through the womb of a virgin, Mary and was born in a little town of Bethlehem (Israel). 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Jesus went all around Israel teaching people about God and that He was the Son of God who had come to save them. He preached the message of repentance, telling people to turn away from their wicked ways and believe that He came to save them. Mathew 4:17, "..Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

The Roman soldiers and chief priests hated Jesus because He claimed to be God. Often they wanted to catch Jesus but were unsuccessful. Jesus had chosen 12 disciples (who later on spread Jesus' message to the entire world), out of whom was Judas (whom Jesus knew would betray Him). Judas, for thirty silver coins betrayed Jesus and brought the soldiers and chief priests to catch Jesus. They seized Jesus and after whipping Him, they nailed Him to the cross and crucified Him (It was a Friday).

When the soldiers, officials, and high priests saw that Jesus was dead, they laughed and mocked. Mathew 27:41-43, "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God."

Christ's Resurrection

Jesus' body was wrapped in linen and placed inside a tomb, whose entrance was covered with a large stone. Soldiers were placed at the entrance to guard the tomb. All were aware of Jesus' claims of rising from the dead on the third day. They wanted to make sure that the disciples don't steal the body and then claim Jesus rose from the dead.

On the third day (Sunday), early in the morning, two women who were known to Jesus went to look at the tomb. When they reached there, they experienced a violent earthquake. An angel of God came down from heaven, rolled the tombstone, and sat on it. Seeing this the two guards shook in fright. The angel told the women not to be frightened, and also told them that Jesus wasn't inside the tomb. The tomb was empty with only the linen that had wrapped Jesus' body lying there.

Mathew 28: 5-7, "The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

The women with tears of joy rushed to tell the good news to the disciples and while they were on their way, they met Jesus, who told them to tell his disciples that He would meet them at Galilee. When the chief priests heard what had happened, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money and told them to say that at night the disciples came and stole the body.

Easter Celebration

Jesus' sinless blood that was shed on the cross, freed mankind from sin and eternal death. Through faith in Christ, man has eternal life. Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." A life that is no longer separated but in communion and fellowship with God. Jesus was the sacrificial lamb, who died to save the world, irrespective of class, color, or creed.

Good Friday, is the Friday when Jesus was crucified and Christ's sacrifice is remembered by Christians as the day their Lord suffered for them. On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead. They celebrate the love that God has shown to them. His great love which made Him send His one and only Son to save sinners. They also celebrate the eternal life they have through their faith in Jesus, knowing that once the life in this world is over, their eternal life with God will begin.

Female Hair Loss Solution For Thicker, Fuller Hair

Female Hair Loss Solution For Thicker, Fuller Hair

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Most women are rather sensitive about their hair. This is because they consider their tresses to be an important part of their overall personalities. Ideally, all of us would like to flaunt healthy and lustrous locks that are easy to manage and style. However, there may be instances when some of us begin noticing an abnormally large number of hair strands in our combs or near the shower drain. This is an indication that all is not well with the health of our hair. So what can we do to reverse this distressing, and rather disturbing, trend of severe hair fall? Is there a female hair loss solution that can help us get back thicker, fuller looking hair strands over time?

Try a topical solution

If you are someone dealing with hair related problems, you can start using a topical solution formulated using Minoxidil, which is the only FDA approved ingredient to treat hair loss and help regrow hair. These days, leading brands are creating hair treatment products that are targeted to gel with the biochemistry of the fairer sex with Minoxidil in the right percentage. You can search online and zero in on an effective and safe hair treatment product from a reputed brand in the domain.

As a matter of fact, many women today are using this kind of a female hair loss solution to enhance the volume, fullness, and manageability of their otherwise limp, dull, and lackluster hair strands.

Make healthy food choices

You may begin losing hair if there is a dearth of essential minerals in your body. So, if you want thicker, fuller looking hair, you would have to be careful about what you eat. Ideally, you need to include food rich in zinc, iron, and proteins in your diet. You can even consider taking iron and zinc supplements after consulting your dietician to deal with the situation of a "more than normal" hair fall.

Use sulfate free hair products

In addition to the hair treatment products mentioned above, you can also start using sulfate free shampoos, voluminizing conditioners, and hair lift sprays to make your tresses appear thicker and fuller.

Layer your hair for a fuller look

If you are losing hair, you can bring about a sense of volume by cutting your hair in layers, where the shortest layers are on top of the head. Talk to your hair stylist to know more about the hairstyles you can experiment with to achieve a fuller and more youthful appearance.

Massage your scalp atleast twice a week to maintain the health of your tresses

A female hair loss solution can be as simple as using a hair oil of your choice and massaging it into the hair and scalp, atleast two times a week. This simple practice is known to increase blood circulation to the follicles and scalp, thereby improving the health of your hair strands.

Follow the practices mentioned above and you would begin to notice significant improvements in the condition of your locks in the long run.

Controlling Husband

Bridesmaid Dresses
Is your husband's controlling demeanor getting under your skin and suffocating you? A control-obsessed man is all it takes to ruin any healthy relationship. Learn to draw the line when things go overboard.
Marriage, as we know it, is a union for life. But what happens when the husband who is meant to share your sorrows and difficulties, becomes the one giving them? An abusive relationship doesn't essentially amount to domestic violence. It is when one person is indifferent to the other people's needs, concerns, problems, or wishes.
Bridesmaid Dresses
Most men can be extremely dominant and controlling -- should they choose to, making them immensely difficult to deal with. However, men in general are slightly more dominant in any relationship. So, identifying whether your husband is controlling, or simply protective is important. Dealing with such men can be tricky no doubt, but it's possible nevertheless.

Identifying a Controlling Husband

Is He Holding Too Tight?

Controlling spouses are known to be over-possessive and insecure. They constantly live in the fear of losing -- be it on the personal, or professional front. Constant hovering and supervision is the most common sign in such cases.

He checks your phone or mail inbox from time to time.
He constantly messages or calls you every few minutes, or hours to keep a tab on you.
He throws tantrums at the mention of you spending time with others; even if it is only girls.
He gets suspicious when you are with your male friends, colleagues, or practically any person you know of the opposite sex!

Are You the Incompetent Parent?

Most dominant husbands usually disapprove of their wives' opinions and thoughts on parenting. They simply won't let you make the rules or decide what is best for your children. You feel helpless and more like a babysitter than a mother to your own child.

From the school to the daycare, everything is decided by him -- you don't get a say.
He makes the rules, from curfew time to school grades, or dealing with their wrong habits. He feels he is wise enough to deal with it alone.

Feel Accountable for Every Penny?

Financial control is undoubtedly the most common sign, wherein you are forced to give explanations for petty amounts; sometimes even your everyday expenses. Being accountable is one thing, and not having much to be accountable for is another thing altogether.

If you both are working full-time, do you still feel it's all "his money"?
As a homemaker, do you have to give a lifetime's worth of explanations to extract a dime out of him?

Are You Being Abused?

It could be emotional, physical, verbal, or psychological abuse. Being in an abusive relationship takes a toll on your life. Women live with it and go through hell every day; however, that is neither the solution or a healthy option.

Have you faced domestic violence or physical abuse?
Are you emotionally blackmailed into doing things that you otherwise wouldn't agree on?
Infidelity is also a strong form of emotional abuse.

Future Plans

Your opinion usually falls on deaf ears when it comes to future decisions. Though your resources or contribution could be the bigger chunk, it's him who rules the roost.

Are you a part of important decisions, like which house, or car to buy?
Does he consult or share his career, family, or future plans with you?

Dealing with a Controlling Husband

The Unknowing Protector

No husband will ever acknowledge that he controls his wife. In his mind, he is simply protecting and looking out for you like a loving husband should! At times, it is just that your man is trying too hard to hold your family together. His behavior maybe controlling, possessive, and bossy but he has the best intentions. Though this doesn't justify him pushing you around, the advantage here is that chances of him improving are high.

Reach Out
Don't wait till things are beyond repair; talk to him today and explain how you feel. Men respond better to logical reasoning than emotional talk, so ensure that you specifically demarcate when and where he goes wrong. Give him examples from instances in the past few days; this will help him understand your point of view better.

Be Tolerant, Forgiving, and Persistent!
Rome was not built in a day. After barely putting your point across, don't expect things to turn around in a flash. He will possibly repeat the same mistake again, a few times at the very least. Be very patient and forgiving every time, but ensure that you point these instances out to him then and there itself -- this is the most important step! Remember, it has probably become a habit for him to behave this way and as we all know, the worst habits are the last to let go!

Warn Him
Sometimes, men get too comfortable with behaving this way and don't put in enough effort to bring about a change. After all, subconsciously he is in a favorable position! Your hubby needs to understand the gravity of the situation. He is probably unperturbed thinking that you are overreacting and would learn to adjust and live with it soon. Put your cards on the table; let him know that it is serious enough for you to walk out of the marriage or get some temporary space and separation. Really mean it, or he might call your bluff, leaving you to deal with this behavior of his, for decades.

Last Resort
If things still don't change with time, there's not much you can do. However, filing for divorce is a tough decision for anyone; especially when you have young children. Separation is a good idea in this scenario; it gives both of you enough space and time to think. Chances are that he'll learn your value in your absence and introspect.

The separation will also awaken him to the seriousness of the situation, reminding him that unless he's ready to bend, your relationship may well be over. But one should resort to this only when all doors of communication are closed and any attempt of you changing him is futile. Quitting should not be an option for as long as possible.

The Control Freak

Another type of controlling husband is a man who simply doesn't care. He wants a mindless slave instead of a wife, who can be bullied around easily. If your husband belongs to this category, then chances of you improving him are slim. Such men are headstrong, stubborn, and don't budge easily. However, that doesn't imply that there's no hope and you have to endure everything tossed your way.

Take a Stand
He can only have control as long as you give it to him. Just because he has behaved this way for a decade doesn't mean you have to endure it for a lifetime! Be as adamant as him, when it comes to the things he pushes you around to do. The next time he wants you to run an errand for him, Say No. Explain why it's not reasonable for you to be doing all the work and get back to the task at hand. Stay calm and focused; losing your temper will only give him another excuse for his behavior. Bluntly refuse when he asks for unnecessary details about your whereabouts. But here, you have to be prepared for his retaliation -- it could be few days, or weeks before he starts getting used to it. However, in the long run, he will learn to maintain boundaries and have rational expectations.

Stop Trying to Please Him
According to him, you're not good enough at anything -- it's a mindset, not an opinion. So it is pointless trying to gain his approval or appreciation. In fact, that works to his benefit. His spiteful behavior is keeping you on your toes and getting his job done. That definitely is not a motivation to change! Try to behave as an equal rather than an inferior; do things if they need to be done and not plainly because he wants them done. Seeking his appreciation just feeds his ego and worsens your problems.

The Almighty

While the above two categories of husbands are annoying, at some level they are level-headed. Their behavior is demanding and irrational, but at least sensible from a selfish person's point of view. Now, there are men from certain religious sects, who are convinced that their marriage comprises them and a female, who is merely there to do the chores and give birth to his children. His very idea of marriage dates far back to the stone age, and so he feels that everything he does or says is a hundred percent correct!

Bossy by God's Word?
Some husbands abuse their wives with the excuse that it is simply how the Lord planned men and women to be! For some odd reason, he has established that as your protector and breadwinner, it is his absolute right to abuse and control you.

Is There a Solution?
It is almost impossible to change such a man. You are not merely trying to change his actions, you are contesting his entire belief system. The solutions to this case are very limited. You could attempt talking to him, but it is not likely to get you very far. Another option is marriage counseling. Here you will have a third person review your marriage, so you can convince him to at least hear someone else's take on it. Again, chances of it working are slim but it is definitely worth a try. Unfortunately, for such difficult marriages, it usually boils down to either separation or divorce.

The Devil in Disguise

He is loving, sweet, and gentle. Several years of being married to him and you probably can't remember any instances of him shouting or arguing. In every fight or disagreement, he is the calm, resolved, and sensible one who puts you down. The perfect devil in disguise!

He gets into an argument and steps back as the noble one. Only to behave as the "better one" later by reminding you of your rash behavior. He claims to trust you completely, but just "happens" to arrive where you are unexpectedly. Such men always hide under the pretext of being the loving and caring one, conveniently shifting their mistakes and the blame onto you. He is just as bad as any other controlling husband, but he will never openly accept it. Some of these husbands, not necessarily all, fall under the following two categories:

Dealing with the "Family Guy"
He is forever disappointed and discontent with the relationship as a whole. He is antisocial and stays reserved; initially, he can easily come across as the perfect "family man." However, with time he will easily be hurt by you talking to other men, or socializing with other people. This kind of a husband emotionally blackmails you to get his way.

To deal with someone as two-faced as him, you will need to master his very game. Be calm and composed when you get into an argument. Simply discard his point in one sentence, leaving him little to argue further on. He will either be forced to give up the charade, or will have to lose the argument altogether. Either way, you stand to gain.

Dealing with the "Philanderer"
A small ratio of such husbands are the regular adulterers. Their sly behavior helps them get by unnoticed many a time. When confronted, they apologize endlessly, convincing you of their "good intentions." However, it is only a matter of time before the cycle begins all over again. There is no easy way to deal with such a husband. Give him a chance to clean up his act or walk out. There is no point waiting around, because habitual adulterers rarely mend their ways.

Calling It Off

As a wife, you are the best judge of whether your husband is capable of change. On a subconscious level, most women are aware that they're in for a lifetime's worth of such behavior. Then why exactly don't they step out instead of enduring endlessly? While saying it is fairly easy, to walk the talk is a lot more complicated.

Raising the Children
A child needs both his parents; undoubtedly one of the prime reasons why a woman chooses to stay in an unhappy marriage rather than breaking it off. It is important for the child to be with his/her father; however, having a happy childhood is equally essential. Staying with both the parents is meaningless if the love and bonding of a family is missing. Constant bickering and fights between parents can scar the child's psyche forever. The environment a child grows up in defines him or her as an adult. If the only way to provide your children that loving and nurturing environment is as a single parent, then it is about time you separated from your husband.

Money Matters
If you are not financially independent, then taking this step is all the more difficult for you. Fending for yourself and meeting the needs of your children can be difficult, especially if you have been a homemaker in the last few years. A good percentage of women quietly endure a bad marriage from the fear of not being able meet their expenses. Though that is a huge and legitimate concern, what is the assurance that your husband won't file for a divorce a few years down the line? If he did, you wouldn't have an option but to pull through somehow. One can always fight through financial problems and manage to land on her feet. If you step up to the challenge, you buy yourself freedom, peace of mind, and a normal and healthy childhood for your children.
Bridesmaid Dresses
Emotional Attachment
While the above two factors are theoretically very big concerns, most women forget to consider their own involvement. Every marriage has its ups and downs, and irrespective of how sour things have turned in the recent few months or years, the feelings will last for a long time to come. Unfortunately, this is the inevitable part in case of a separation; there's not much you can do to make it easier other than being strong and mentally prepared. It is crucial to not let your emotions take a toll on you because post the split, it is you who will have to take charge and be responsible for everything around the house.

The key note here is to try to make it work with your husband. A broken marriage will hurt you for life and of course, there is nothing more important for your children than a complete and loving family. That being said, if things are falling apart with no sign of improvement, no one should have to be a part of a hurtful and meaningless relationship. It is never too late to start afresh!

Learn Formal Dresses Styles and Where You Can Buy Them

Learn Formal Dresses Styles and Where You Can Buy Them

If you've ever panicked over getting a party invitation that stipulates attire requirements, fear no more. Today's proverbial "laws of fashion" aren't as strict as they were in the past. However, though no one is likely to have a fit over whatever party dress you slip into, there are a few fashion guidelines that still apply today. Simply knowing the time of day the party will be held is often the most helpful information you need to select the right dress for the occasion.

FORMAL DRESSES

Day Dresses

Whether attending a luncheon, baby shower or afternoon tea, daytime party dresses tend to be more conservative in cut and fabric. Hem lengths that fall just at the knee and necklines that reveal a minimal amount of cleavage are appropriate for any day occasion. Sheath dresses that skim the body without hugging curves, circle-skirted tea-length dresses that hide wide hips, and casually cut wrap dresses that create the illusion of a waist are appropriate styles for daytime events. Dresses cut from non-shiny, less formal fabrics like solid-colored cotton, printed lawn or embroidered eyelet are ideal for day wear.

Cocktail Dresses

For parties held after 5 p.m. or events that will run into evening hours, such as an afternoon wedding, cocktail dresses are appropriate attire. Cocktail dress options are constructed from formal fabrics, such as a shiny charmeuse or an embroidered tulle, and are often embellished with flashy trim such as beadwork, sequins or lace. However, dresses that incorporate a combination of trims can look overworked and cheap. Many cocktail dresses are cut to reveal a lot of leg and cleavage, but dresses that do both cheapen the look. The classiest cocktail dresses pair plunging necklines with hemlines that reach the knees or mid-thigh hems with modest necklines like a boat neck and are regarded as the best party dresses.

Formal Dresses

Party invitations that request formal or black-tie attire open the door for more elaborate dress selections. While embellished cocktail dresses provide perfectly acceptable options, longer and more elaborate gowns may be more appropriate. Formal dresses typically have hemlines that brush the floor and come in a variety of cuts that flatter most body shapes. However, full-skirted ball gowns are so far removed from current fashion trends that they are really only appropriate as wedding gowns or prom dresses.

Upcoming graduation festivities, weddings, proms, formals as well as business dinner gatherings often entail the party dress. The event dictates the type of dress appropriate for the occasion such as the silhouette, dress length, color and fabric. Purchasing the evening dresses from reputable locations reduces shopping related stress and allows you to focus on accessorizing the party dress as well as looking forward to the event.

FORMAL DRESSES

Department Store Retailers

Return policies, payment type and variety are a few advantages to shopping at department store retailers like Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard's or Nordstrom. Showcasing party dresses in different visual merchandising displays, gives you the opportunity to select the appropriate style for a specific event. Certain stores like Bloomingdale's also offer a personal shopper. The professional shopper selects specific styles prior to your arrival. Check with the department stores for specific fees such as purchase minimums.

Specialty Retail Shops and Boutiques

Mom and pop stores as well as boutiques offer personalized customer service when shopping for party dresses. Sales representatives act as a separate set of eyes while you try on several garments. The sales associate can also gather more styles while you are fitting different dresses. For example, shops like The Bridal Boutique have a location in Columbia, Maryland as well as online representation allowing you to request an appointment prior to your arrival. Moms shopping for frilly kids party dresses can visit TutuGirl online, which offers a variety of ballerina inspired dress styles. Keep in mind, boutiques often do not offer returns and sales are final.

How to Choose the Right Homecoming Dresses for Your Body Type

How to Choose the Right Homecoming Dresses for Your Body Type

FORMAL DRESSES

Homecoming is right around the corner, and it's never too early to begin your search for the perfect dress. Unlike prom dresses, homecoming dresses are traditionally less formal and more fun, giving you the chance to select a homecoming dress that suits your personality - and your body type.

Homecoming gowns come in a wide array of styles, colors and types, which can be overwhelming, if you don't have a particular dress in mind. However, no matter what type of gown you prefer - empire waist, A-line gowns or a minidress, for example - your ideal homecoming dress should fit and flatter your body type.

Find a Flattering Homecoming Dress - Determine Your Body Type

Because not every homecoming dress will be flattering to each body type, you should begin your search for the perfect frock by first assessing your body shape. Stand in front of the mirror and evaluate your body - but whatever you do, don't spent time criticizing your body - you're perfect the way you are! Instead, evaluate your body objectively and use the information you learn to choose homecoming dresses that will enhance your best features.

Below we have put together a guide listing several body types and the homecoming dresses that work best for these shapes. Don't worry if you find that your features fit one, two, or three of these body types at once - each body is different. Simply choose the set of features that sound like they fit you the best!

Apple Shape

The "apple shape" body type is coined after a torso that is shaped like an apple, with a larger chest and slimmer hips. The shoulders may be broader, and the mid-section may be wider. For girls with this body type, choose dresses that skim the body, elongate the torso, and show off those legs!

We recommend choosing a homecoming dress with a V-neck or empire-line neckline to elongate the body and to detract from the natural waist lines. Dresses with belts cinched at the smallest part of the waist are also very attractive for the apple shape - additionally, empire dresses help to conceal or slim the mid-section, making the body look slimmer. And shorter homecoming dresses show off the apple shape's best assets - her legs! Choose a frock with a shorter hemline to accentuate the legs and to deter from the midsection.

Pear Shape

The "pear shape" is defined by a pear-shaped torso, with a smaller upper body that elongates into a larger lower body. Girls with the pear shape body type typically have rounded hips and posteriors, with slim stomachs and small chests.

We recommend selecting a homecoming dress that detracts attention away from the hips and the thighs and accentuates the shoulders, the elongated torso and the flat stomach. The design should downplay the hips and add shape to the upper-body. Strapless homecoming dresses provide girls with this body type a chance to display their slender arms, particularly dress styles with ruffles on top, which provide the upper-body with extra shape. A-line styles also work particularly well with pear-shaped bodies.

Hourglass Shape

Girls with this body shape have torsos with a slim mid-section and a similarly-proportioned upper and lower-body width. The hourglass figure is usually well-rounded in the hips, thighs and/or chest area, making girls with this shape extra-curvy. The trick? Choosing a homecoming dress that accentuates and balances the weight of the curves, without hiding the body shape.

We recommend selecting homecoming dresses that cinch at the waist to highlight the slim, narrow hourglass figure, and to shy away from baggy dresses that may hide or add weight to the body shape. Wrap dresses and fitted dresses are ideal for this body type, as well as dresses made from light-weight fabrics that skim the torso flatteringly, without adding weight.

Celebrities Who Share This Body Type: Drew Barrymore, Salma Hayek, Katherine Heigl, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Mariah Carey

Homecoming Dresses for This Body Type: Black by Blush C093 Cocktail Dress; Terani H1216 Dress

Rectangle Shape

Girls with a rectangle-shaped body typically have a waist, hips and shoulders that are of similar width, with a slim torso and stomach, and often, a smaller chest. Because girls with this body type typically do not need to detract attention away from any body features, they can wear a variety of different styles to show off their slimmer legs and arms.

We recommend selecting a homecoming dress that creates curves and accentuates these features, including gowns with ruffles and details in the chest-area, layers and ruching or cinching on the sides. Sweetheart-topped homecoming dresses are also ideal for rectangle-shaped bodies, as this will add curves to the chest without adding extra weight to the stomach region.

Celebrities Who Share This Body Type: Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexa Chung, Gwen Stefani, Nicole Ritchie, Cameron Diaz, Kiera Knightly, Reese Witherspoon

Homecoming Dresses for This Body Type: Jasz Couture 4719 Dress; Sherri Hill Prom Dress 8423

Wedge Shape

Girls with a wedge-shaped body type typically have a larger upper body, with smaller hips and waist. Wedge-shaped bodies may also have larger chests and wider shoulders, creating an inverted triangle shape from the shoulders to the waist.

Select a homecoming dress that accentuates the legs and the lower body, detracting from the broader upper-body. Homecoming dresses ideal for this body shape include fuller skirts, including higher-waisted skirts, and bottoms with bright colors. We recommend shying away from spaghetti-strap tops, boat-neckline tops, and other styles that may draw the attention back to the upper-body. The trick is to find a homecoming dress that draws the attention downward, towards the legs and the waistline.

Celebrities Who Share This Body Type: Audrina Patridge, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Jessica Simpson, Angelina Jolie

Homecoming Dresses for This Body Type: Jovani Dress 3591

Love Your Body

No matter what body shape you have, you should appreciate, accept and love the body you were born with. Each body shape features different, beautiful attributes, so don't obsess over trying to obtain "perfection" - it doesn't exist. Simply choose a homecoming dress that accentuates the fabulous features that you already have, and remember to have a fun, unforgettable homecoming!

Halter Dress
With knee-length or long dresses, halter neckline looks really chic and sexy. Especially for women who have broad shoulders, halter neckline dresses are perfect. Evening dresses with a halter neck are bound to leave people around you with envious looks on their faces. These patterns that incorporate the halter neckline are best suited for women with the perfectly toned back as well. A low back dress pattern will reveal the flirtatious side in you! Therefore, make sure you go all out to look your best and get that back and shoulders right in shape! Sexy halter evening dresses are bound to add more glitter and glamor to your evening! Just make sure to wear the right shoes with the dress, depending on the length of your dress. If your dress is above the knees, than wear prominent heels to highlight your legs.

Hanky Hem Evening Dress
These are surely one of the most sensual designs of all evening dress patterns. Hankie hem evening dresses have asymmetrical edges and often have the overall appearance of a scarf. The best part about these dresses is that you can get them in a single color or shades of different colors. With the hem falling into points, the dress seems light and airy; ultimately giving it a fun look. If you have wide hips or big thighs, hanky hem dresses will look fabulous on you. The idea behind these designer evening dresses is that you show some skin, without actually going overboard. Add accessories likes earrings and a bracelet, and you're ready to hit the town!

Strapless Dress
Strapless gowns form a very popular pattern for most dress designs. Women who have no issues to flaunt their skin can go in for the strapless evening dress without thinking much about it. The strapless dress patterns looks really good with flared or even fitting evening dresses. These can make you look elegant when worn with a flared or ruffled lower portion of the dress or it can turn you into a style diva if the dress is completely fitting with some shimmer on it! Pair the dress with a gorgeous necklace, a bracelet, and shoes. Depending on the length of the dress, you can either wear stilettos, wedge heels, pumps, or block heels.

Formal Dresses

Sequin Dress
Sequin dresses can make anyone look like a million bucks. You're not just looking shimmery, but this party dress actually can be worn for any season. Choose a dress that is just above your knees or knee-length (don't go below knee-length as it doesn't do the dress justice), that accentuates every part of your body. Although, while choosing sequin women's dresses, do keep the color and pattern in mind.

History and Traditions of Dyngus Day

Dyngus Day is the Polish name given to Easter Monday. Filled with great Polish food, drink, music, and dance, this occasion is not one to be missed. In this article, we will discuss the history, legends, and the various traditions that make Dyngus Day such a special and fun day.

Did You Know?
In South Bend, Indiana, and its surrounding regions, Dyngus Day is celebrated elaborately each year. On this day, all bars in the area serve as bus stops, where revelers use the buses to barhop throughout the day.
Dyngus Day, also known as Śmigus-Dyngus Day, or Lany Poniedzialek, is a Slavic festive holiday steeped in symbolism, and celebrated across Poland and many Polish communities across the United States. It takes place on Easter Monday each year, after the serious period of Lent, and is considered as a fun and enjoyable occasion for people of all ages. In religious context, this day symbolizes the beginning of Catholicism in the Polish people. The meaning of Dyngus Day comes from the medieval word 'dingnus', which means worthy or suitable. It is a day of dancing, drinking beer, eating great Polish food, and a strange courting ritual, which brings people from all over in search of true love.

History of Dyngus Day
It is thought that the Poles who worshiped the pagan nature gods would gain the favor of nature spirits by pouring water and hitting themselves with pussy willows, to make themselves pure and worthy for the following year. Dyngus Day traditions can be dated back to 966 A.D., when the Polish Prince Mieszko I was baptized, signaling that all of Poland was now a Christian nation. The idea of purification through baptism was eventually turned into a fun event, where boys would soak girls with buckets of water. These traditions were also believed to be inspired by the wedding of the Lithuanian Duke Jagiello, and the Polish Queen Jadwiga, which involved a large number of baptisms on the Lithuanian side.

Another legend that is related to this festival is about a Polish Princess named Wanda. It is believed that the princess drowned herself in the river when she was being forced into marrying a man that she did not love. In honor of her memory, girls are to be soaked in water on Dyngus Day. This practice of pouring water is considered a spring rite of fertility, cleansing, and purity.

Traditions of Dyngus Day
Ceremonies and Rituals: Dyngus Day is also known as Wet Monday, as on this day it was a tradition for males to soak females whom they found attractive, with buckets of water, and as such, the more beautiful women would find themselves being drenched throughout the day. It is believed that the more a girl got drenched, the higher were her chances of getting married soon.

In earlier times, women were supposed to throw dishes back at the men on the next day as a tradition of retribution. However, in recent times, women just throw buckets of water at the men on the same day. Alternatively, girls can also hand over Easter eggs to the boys if they do not wish to be drenched. Following this, the soaking stalks of pussy willows are used to smack each other. This tradition is known as Smigus Dyngus. American-Polish people end these festivities with a polka dance.

According to an old tradition, any woman found sleeping in bed on the morning of Easter Monday could be swatted with pussy willow switches by the men, who would then proceed to take away her Easter eggs while chanting 'Dyngus, dyngus, po dwa jaja; nie chce chleba tylko jaja!' (Dyngus, dyngus, for two eggs; I don't want bread but eggs).

Another tradition is for the revelers to pull around a cart or wheelbarrow with a live or wooden rooster, and visiting homes in the locality, similar to the Trick-or-Treat tradition, to collect various items of food and drink. This practice has faded out of urban areas nowadays, and can be seen rarely in very rural places where the community is extremely close-knit.

Food: Traditional Dyngus Day food consists of a huge variety of Polish foods. The most popular dishes include sauerkraut, Polish sausages, pickled eggs, sweet and sour noodles, casseroles, bigos (Polish stew made of beef, pork, cabbage, and dates), kielbasa, meatballs, and pierogi - a type of steamed dumpling.
Prom-Dresses
In America, many Polish-American communities observe Dyngus Day. Buffalo, New York, is officially considered as the Dyngus Day capital of the nation. Here, one can find the highest number of festival venues, polka bands, and other Polish traditions. So, get yourself to any of the venues which hold this event, dance to polka tunes, drink some Polish beer, and thank the hosts for the wonderful time you had by saying 'Dziekuja' at the end of the day.

What is Fashion Forecasting and Why is it Important?

There's something about which we all are alarmingly conscious about all time - fashion. Nobody wants to put a fuddy-duddy show anywhere as the ignominy that comes along with a faux pas is too much for the modish mortal to bear. Did you ever muse over as to why for some season a Bomber Jacket is plumped for than a Varsity Jacket? The answer is fashion forecasting. In this article, know what is fashion forecasting and its importance.
Prom-Dresses
Prom-Dresses
In Simple Terms
Fashion forecasting is trend-driven and not fad-driven. It, thus, makes a tall order for the fashion forecasters to know if something is a mere flash in the pan or if something is worthwhile and there to stay in for long.

If you thought the trends du jour are all products of whims and fancies of fashion designers, then you have been cherishing a fallacy that will gain you scathing criticism from fashion deities. Every item that features on the runway (however grandiose or minutiae) is all preordained―right from the appropriate shade of a color to a specific print; a fashion trend is never a result of fortuity, but a systematic gleaning and compiling of information that is contingent on different fields and aspects. To put it simply, everything that you see, hear about, or wear is a result of diligent research and arduous efforts of the trend forecasters and analysts.

Understanding Fashion Forecasting

So, what is fashion forecasting actually? This doesn't involve any crystal ball or prophesy of any similar nature, but predictions purely made on observations pivoted on developments in:

Art
Design
Technology
Socioeconomics
Lifestyle
Food
Travel

This is along with understanding of demographic shifts and consumer behavior.

Hence, just knowing what is going to be 'en vogue' isn't adequate, and one must be perceptive about shifts in consumer preferences as well. The confluence of these developments are elements that help fashion forecasters get a wider, better, and clearer picture of trends that will emanate for a particular year.

Aspects of Fashion Forecasting

Fashion forecasting isn't just about focusing on the future, but looking back into trend archives as most of the emerging trends have their rootage in the past. While fashion forecasting hinges on the styles, key pieces, colors, in other words qualitative aspects of fashion, it does not overlook the quantitative aspects of it. After all, fashion is a business where numbers do matter.

Qualitative fashion forecasting happening at a buyer's end is all math, where he analyzes trends based on specific brands, target customers of the brands, decides the number of items per style and per color, and sets an overall goal for a brand or company to achieve.

Methodology employed for fashion forecasting are varied and different for every brand. Whatever be the modus operandi of buyers, it always starts with perusing magazines, scanning fashion literature, Internet, catwalks, street observations, traveling to fashion capitals of the world, attending trade shows, et al.

Importance of Fashion Trend Forecasting

Forecasting is an operative word in the retail world, for the very foundation of it is built and cemented by it. A successful fashion business is dictated by viability and appeal. So, what you see on the runway isn't just instinctual but real. A designer's collection would be a complete whimper if he/she misses on key pieces or season choices; a far cry from the bang he/she had anticipated. We just couldn't agree more with Karl Lagerfeld who remarked, "There's no fashion if nobody buys it."

Timing is incontrovertibly associated with a designer's or brand's success, and this is where fashion forecasting assumes a decisive role.

Be it a merchandiser, designer, buyer, retail executive or anyone involved in this capricious business of fashion, if he/she loses his mojo, they lose everything. While riding on the statistical data alone may seem normative (and it doesn't necessarily spell success), the real trick is about considering variables, and not basing your assumptions on a singular factor.
Prom-Dresses
Despite fashion being a ubiquitous phenomenon, it is not same for all. What appeals to the populace in the United States may not jibe with the aesthetic sensibilities of those in Asia. Hence, trends are modified as they reach different parts of the world.

Facts About Parrots

Prom-Dresses
Parrots happen to be some of the most colorful and attractive bird species in the animal kingdom. With this article, I wish to give you a glimpse of some crucial facts and interesting features of these birds.

Fact about parrots
Birds of the same feather, flock together!
Prom-Dresses
This proverb often sets me imagining a huge flock of green colored parrots and multicolored macaws on some of the highest branches of trees during the spring season. Although these parrots make really loud noise, their huge flocks can look really attractive. Let us understand these beautiful creatures in a little more detail.

Parrot Families

Parrots can be classified under the order Psittaciformes of Animalia Kingdom. The current research shows that, some 372 species of approximately 86 genera of parrots exist as of today. There are three broad superfamilies in which parrots are classified. Let us have a look at them.

Psittacoidea

This superfamily is often quoted to be the 'True Parrots'. This is because, geographically, they happen to be most widely spread.
Species under this superfamily are prominently found in countries of the southern hemisphere such as India and Australia. They are also found in the United States, Polynesia, South and Central America, Western Africa and countries of Southeast Asia.
Common varieties include the regularly found green parrots, macaws, lorikeets, lorries, parakeets, etc.

Scientific Classification

Psittacidae
Psittacinae
Arinae
Psittrichasiidae
Psittrichasinae
Coracopsinae
Psittaculidae

Psittacellinae
Psittaculinae
Loriinae

Cacatuoidea

This superfamily is known to comprise birds commonly known to us as Cockatoos. There are approximately 21 species in this superfamily.
The Cockatoo word is said to have been derived from an Indonesian word which most probably means parrot.
These birds are native to regions such as Australia, Tasmania, Indonesia, Solomon Islands and Philippines.
Some of the well-known varieties include the palm cockatoo, Major Mitchell's cockatoo, Sulphur-crested cockatoo, Gang gang cockatoo, Salmon-crested cockatoo, Blue-eyed cockatoo etc.

This superfamily is composed of three genera of parrots, out of which the Nelepsittacus genus has been declared as completely extinct. Most of the species in the remaining two genera are either near extinction or highly endangered.

Scientific Classification

Physical Features

Most parrots have some common physical features like strong curvy beaks, zygodactyl claws and a straight posture. Green happens to be their primary color, with variations in shades as per different sub species. There are several species which have starkly contrasting and beautiful plumage in bright shades of red, green, blue and yellow. Parrots are also found in neutral shades of white, black and gray. Some species from cockatoo family are known for their attractive crests. Shape and length of feathers is likely to vary in different varieties of parrots. With the exception of Eclectus parrots and cockatoo families, there is no sexual dimorphism in parrots.

Natural Habitat

Historically, parrots are known to originate in the southern supercontinent of Gondwanaland. Even today, most parrot species are found in the warmer tropical regions of the world. A few exceptional varieties can be found in temperate regions as well.
Parrots are known to live in large parrot colonies or groups. They make their nests in hollows of large trees that offer plenty of green foliage and abundance of fruits and seeds. Only the Monk Parakeet and five species of Agapornis lovebirds actually build nests in trees. Three Australian and New Zealand parrots nest on the ground itself. Today, due to rampant deforestation, parrots are losing their natural habitat and are forced to seek shelter in crowded urban areas. It is a sad sight to see the parrots making their colonies in nooks under roofs of houses and recesses in the walls.

Food Preferences

Parrots are primarily herbivores. Typically, they are known to feed on seeds, nuts, fruit flesh and nectar from flowers. Seeds form such an integral part of their diet, that parrots have learned to remove seed coats and other fruit parts that contain protective poisons, prior to ingestion. Several species in America, Southeast Asia and Africa eat clay, which soaks up toxic compounds from their gut. A parrot may feed on fruits such as guavas, apples, bananas, raw mangoes, cherries, plums, etc. Some varieties of parrots found in India are known to feed on chillies. A few are also known to prey on small insects and creatures.

Mating and Reproduction

Most species of parrots are known to form monogamous pairs with their mating companions, right after they attain sexual maturity. Parrots are known to prefer warmer seasons for their reproduction. For those, who have parrots as pets, both males and females start becoming territorial as soon as the mating season begins. Parrots are known to become very noisy and bite hands of their caretakers during this time. They may start displaying their attractive feathers, along with eye flashing, crest and tail flashing etc.
Once a female lays her eggs, she incubates them for approximately 28 days till they hatch. Egg colors can range from pure white to shades of gray. The size of eggs varies for every parrot species.

Extinct Sub species

Several parrot species around the world are endangered or have even become extinct. One reason for their extinction is high levels of poaching by bird collectors. Here is a list of some prominent parrot species that no longer exist.

World Famous Parrots

There have been several parrots throughout history, that were favorite pets of some of the most influential people in the world. There was an African gray parrot named Lory owned by Queen Victoria, that could effortlessly sing "God save the Queen' or Martha Washington's (former first lady of United States) pet parrot called Polly. However, I feel the need to mention two other parrots in a little more detail.

Alex (1976 to 2007)
This African Gray parrot was owned by American psychologist Irene Pepperberg. His name being an acronym, actually stands for Avian Learning Experiment. As per Pepperberg's study, Alex had the intelligence level of a five years old kid and emotion level of a two years old toddler. He had a very high level of intelligence, almost comparable to primates. Alex had a talent with using words and mimicking language used by people around him. He had a vocabulary of about 150 words and could correct people if they made errors while speaking. He could do basic levels of logical reasoning and numerical cognition. Alex had a talent for identification of objects, shapes and colors too. He helped Pepperberg by training and guiding his successors.

Poll (dates of hatching and death not available)
This particular African Gray parrot was owned by Andrew Jackson, the ex- President of the United States. Poll could mimic words and communicate in two languages, English as well as Spanish. While grasping words, Poll is said to have learned several offensive words too. It is said that Poll blurted out several such words during the funeral service of his master, which offended several mourners. Today, Poll's voice has been recreated and used in audio tours of The Hermitage Mansion, the last residence and museum depicting Andrew Jackson and his family.

Parrot Trivia

Parrots are some of the most intelligent birds. This is because their brain to body ratio is almost equal to higher level mammals. Experiments show that parrots are capable of identifying objects and remembering names. These birds were even used as spies and messengers during olden times due to their sharp memories.
The Macaws have an exceptional capacity to learn and mimic human speech. They do not possess any vocal cords like human beings. Instead, they have developed a knack for changing the shape of their trachea to control the passage of air through their respiratory system. This helps them to create sounds that resemble human speech. On account of this, they are popularly known as the talking parrots. This also makes them some of the most entertaining pets and companions.
They are able to exert tremendous biting pressure. Parrots that eat seeds have strong tongues, which they use to manipulate seeds, or position nuts in their bills.
The Cockatoos have a mobile crest of feathers on top of their heads. It is used as a means to attract females during the mating season.
Most parrots can climb tree canopies when they are not flying. They use their bills for gripping the branches or other supports with their beaks. They frequently walk with a rolling gait on the ground.
The Macaws are some of largest parrots in the world, while the lovebirds and pygmy parrots are some of the smallest parrot species.
Prom-Dresses
A disturbing fact is that, parrots are highly endangered. This is mostly due to the hunting of wild parrots for pet trade, as well as habitat loss and competition from invasive species. At present, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has placed a ban on sale of any wild species.
