Instructions to Make Date Sugar

Prom-Dresses
Sugar substitutes are rapidly taking over the markets and becoming an integral and holistic part of everyone's lives. This is probably because date sugar is an all-natural and unprocessed sugar alternative, thus making it a wonderful substitute. Since it is relatively a new form of alternative sweetener, many forget that it is very sweet and cannot be used like the normal sugar. This sugar is insoluble in liquid, and therefore, its use is quite limited. So, trying to stir it into your coffee or tea would be a fruitless effort. However, you could use it to spruce up your boring, old oatmeal or use it on top of yogurt or ice cream, instead of your regular sprinkles and toppings. Now that you know the simplest uses of this wonderful sugar, let's see how to make date sugar at home.

You Will Need
✦ Dates
✦ Stainless Steel Baking Sheet
✦ Food Processor or Coffee Grinder
✦ Airtight Container

How to Make Date Sugar
Step 1
Slice and pit the dates, meaning slice the dates and remove the seeds from the dates. If you've bought the seedless variety, then slice them open anyway.

Step 2
Place it on the baking sheet and begin baking it at around 400ºC or 752ºF, which is ideal for 10 - 15 minutes. However, the heat and time duration, both, will vary as per the oven. Then turn off the oven. Keep an eye out to prevent it from burning.

Step 3
Allow the dates to cool and dry out completely. It may take a couple of hours and turn rock solid.

Step 4
Place them little by little in a coffee grinder or food processor and blitz them till you get a sugar-like consistency. Make sure you don't leave out any bits and pieces. A coffee grinder will give you an even texture.

Step 5
Sift this sugar and you'll be left with a finely ground date sugar. You can use the larger or chunkier bits of your date sugar while making apple crumble. Store the date sugar in an airtight container at room temperature. This sugar can last up to a year.

Step 6
The sugar might get sticky and clumpy soon, so to prevent this, transfer it into an airtight container.
Prom-Dresses
Date sugar works impeccably well when added to baked goods such as bars, brownies, apple crumble, and cookies. But do remember this rule of the thumb―while substituting white sugar with date sugar, use only ⅔ cup of date sugar in place of 1 cup of white sugar.
