Women in India are no longer kept inside the four walls of the house. Today, they have become more capable, liberated and independent than the women of yesteryears. They have redefined the gender role and asserted power as well as freedom for themselves and have proved their potentials in every aspect of life. However, in the process of struggling for equality and carving a niche for themselves, their health that have taken a toll on them. Whether you blame it on the lifestyle or lesser body resistance, the growing women's health issues are catching eyes of everyone. While a very little is done to avoid these, some of the most common health problems among the women of India are:
Polycystic ovarian disease: Popularly termed as PCOD, polycystic ovarian disease is one of the most common health issues found in women. It is a common female endocrine disorders affecting about 5 to 10% of women falling under reproductive age A woman is diagnosed with PCOD if in any one of the ovaries has 12 or more follicles. It is a problem when the hormones in the body of a woman are not in balance and causes menstrual irregularity as well as difficulty in conceiving. Besides these, other problems such as acne, excess growth of hair on the body, hair loss, infertility, weight gain or obesity and high insulin are some other effects of PCOD. It is a lifestyle disease, which can be combated and prevented by leading a healthier lifestyle as well as with timely check-ups.
Breast Cancer: One of the most growing issue in terms of women's health, which is responsible for 1% death worldwide is breast cancer. It is a cancer that develops from breast cells and often starts in the inner lining of the milk tubes that supply them with milk. Although the causes of it are still uncertain, the main cause of breast cancer indicates toward the changing lifestyle that people are leading today. Late marriage, less or no breastfeeding, the delay in having the first child, genetic issues and over-weight are the different reasons that have increased the risk breast cancer among women.

Uterine Fibroids: Another major health problem found in every 3rd or 4th women is uterine fibroids. These are noncancerous growth of cells in the uterus that often appear during childbearing years. It is often detected when women face issues like heavy bleeding and unbearable pain during menstruation or facing problems in conceiving and approaches the doctor. It grows slowly and often shrinks after menopause due to the lack of the hormone in the body; however, at times it can grow so big and weigh several kilos, which can affect the other parts of the body. The reason is often genetic, but also can be due to an unhealthy lifestyle.
These are some of the major health issues faced by women of India today, which needs to be given importance. Besides these, heart issues, hypertension, thyroid issues, urinary tract infection, etc. are some other common health issues among the women.
