Clip in Hair Extensions vs One piece Hair wefts and Hair pieces

What are the differences between clip on hair extensions and one piece clip in hair pieces?  Which are better? We explain all for you!

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Clip in Hair Extensions – what are they and how do they work?

Hair extensions are an easy way of making hair longer and thicker by attaching human hair (obtained by companies often from women in India or Russia) or synthetic fibre to natural hair using one of a number of methods.

Very few celebrities we see who have long, thick hair are lucky enough to be blessed with natural hair in that state.  Many have bonded real- hair extensions, glued or bonded in using heat guns by professionals.  Experts can apply extensions so that joins can rarely be seen, and colours blended so very rarely can the client's real hair be distinguished from the added hair. The cost of a full-head of real hair extensions can be upwards of £600 (and often take over 4 hours to apply) and these need replacing (to maintain their condition) at least every 3-4 months.

It is the prohibitive costs of these professionally applied extensions that has opened the market for clip-in hair extensions. These can be made of real hair or synthetic hair and come in all shades of colours so that you can mix and match with your own hair.

The width and length of the extensions can also vary so that you can choose the placing of the pieces on your own head.  Each extension piece (ranging from 5cm wide to 15 cm wide has a clip attached which you can use to clip into your own hair.

Packs of "full head clip in hair extensions" will contain a selection of  pieces of different widths that you can use individually or all together- depending on what effect/thickness you wish to achieve.

One piece Hair wefts- how do they work?

Hair wefts have been popular in the afro-caribbean market for a long time and are often sewn into one's own hair for a semi-permanent effect, similar to glued hair extensions.

Clip in hair pieces and hair wefts are a temporary version of these traditional wefts and allow users to clip in easily to their own hair when length or extra thickness is needed. As opposed to hair extensions which come in small separate pieces, a hair weft is almost like a half-wig which clips from one side of the head all the way to the other. Attached to the head, underneath the top layer of hair,  using a number of clips it creates a fuller effect than clip in hair extensions.

Hair wefts can come in different lengths, curly, wavy or straight styles and in different colours to match your own tone.

Clip in Hair Extensions or Hair wefts?

Both are great, easy ways of adding length to your own hair.

Clip in extensions give you the option of adding contrasting colour and highlights to your hair as well. You could experiment with different colour sets and create modern hair trends without having to dye your own hair.

Clip on extensions, although great for colour and length do not tend to have a great effect in terms of thickening hair, just because it would take quite a few packs, and a lot more time in attaching the pieces. Hair wefts, however, are fantastic for adding instant volume in a few simple clicks.

How are extensions and wefts attached?
