Sherwani
The sherwani is one of the most regal and attractive Indian outfits for men. It is a cross between a British frock dress and a kurta pyjama; it combines the long, coat like structure with intricate and rich ethnic designs and patterns. The men's wedding sherwani is probably the most ornate and opulent of all, distinguished by its use of expensive, richly brocaded materials and metallic thread designs. More often than not, the high end, classy designer men's clothing comes in the form of a sherwani or some variation of the same. The royal vibe this outfit grants to men, along with the rich designs it often comes with, makes it the perfect outfit for opulent wedding occasions.
Kurta Pyjama
FORMAL DRESSES
The kurta pyjama is another traditional garment of India, worn across the country by men belonging to different communities and regions. It is also the most popular men's clothing online on ethnic fashion websites. It is a very comfortable and versatile garment that consists of a long tunic called the kurta and a loose pair of pants called the pyjama. Many men prefer wearing this for the more low-key wedding occasions. It is both comfortable and appropriately ethnic, though it tends to have a simpler look as compared to sherwanis. The higher end varieties, made of pure silk or georgette, do have a more luxurious look and may be worn for the main ceremony as well.
Dhoti Kurta/Sherwani
This is a slightly more unconventional option though it has its roots in the traditional garb of India. In fact, till today, at more traditional ceremonies in different parts of the country, men are expected to wear the dhoti. It is essentially a long piece of cloth which is draped to resemble trousers and tucked in to place at the waist. It can be worn in many different ways depending on the region, the occasion and the aesthetic preferences of the wearer. In south India, for example, men wear the dhoti with a thick, zari bordered shawl called the angavasthram and no other upper wear garment. In north India, the dhoti-sherwani combination is more popular. Dhotis can also be worn with kurtas if that is the preference of the wearer.
These are not the only types of mens wedding outfits, though they are the most popular. Indo western options like the Nehru jacket and Jodhpuri suit are also becoming quite trendy.
